Fellows, researchers and volunteers

The Sikh Education Council is home to a wide-ranging group of active volunteers who number around seventy, including a dozen researchers and ten fellows.

Gurpreet Singh

hertfordshire

Gurpreet Singh is a secondary maths and science teacher. He is amongst the longest-serving volunteers for the Sikh Education Council having written research and opinion pieces for ‘Sikh Sunehan’ across a decade. Gurpreet has contributed significant written content for a number of publications and broadcasters on behalf of the SEC, and is now a member of the teaching staff for the Sikh Studies course.

Harwinder Singh

LONDON

Harwinder Singh is a web editor and broadcaster. He is a long-serving director and volunteer for the Sikh Education Council acting primarily as an educator in the field of Sikh Studies, with over two decades of experience presenting across a range of audiences, although focusing on students in Higher Education settings and professionals in the workplace. He holds the position of editor of ‘Sikh Sunehan’, our quarterly publication of Sikh studies and research, and is the convener of the SEC’s four-year Sikh Studies course.

Dr Jaskiran Kaur

oxfordshire

Dr Jaskiran Kaur completed her PhD in Anthropology from the London School of Economics. Dr Kaur first studied under the Sikh Education Council in 2013 whilst an undergraduate at Queen Mary University of London, and has continued to write and publish within the SEC throughout her academic journey. She is very much at the heart of developing our Sikh Studies course offering, has represented the Council on a number of occasions including multi-faith settings , and is managing editor of the International Journal of Sikh Studies.

Dr Jasvir Singh

COPENHAGEN

Dr Jasvir Singh has a PhD from Punjabi University, Patiala, exploring Ethnicity and the role of the United Nations in the Kosovo crisis. He is author of the Punjabi language book ‘ਕੌਮਵਾਦ: ਸਿਧਾਂਤਕ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ‘ (‘Qaumvaadh: Sidhantak Jaan- Pachaan’) published in 2023 and is presently head of research at the Sikh Education Council where he continues to undertake research and write for a range of publications.

Narvir Singh

LONDON

Narvir Singh has an interdisciplinary practice that spans poetry, music, theatre, photography and film. He is a two-time UK National Slam Finalist, has released music commercially, produced immersive theatre experiences, and has exhibited at the British Film Institute and the National Portrait Gallery amogst others. At the Sikh Education Council, Narvir Singh delivers a year 2 Sikh studies course module on culture.

Dr Palwinder Kaur

HERTFORDshire

Dr Palwinder Kaur completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. She has over two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and an impressive publication record. She is a researcher at the Sikh Education Council primarily focusing on topics at the interface of Sikhi and science. Dr Kaur is project co-lead for the SEC’s children’s activity days and netball skills days.

Dr Pargat Singh

HERTFORDshire

Dr Pargat Singh is a retired Mathematics scholar who was academic group leader at the London Metropolitan University until 2016. He has spoken and published widely in the field of Sikh Studies from an interdisciplinary perspective and has chaired the Sikh Education Council since its inception, having been the primary founding member in 1983. His current responsibilities and roles include editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Sikh Studies and convenor of the International Conference of Sikh Studies.

Ranjeet Singh

Ranjeet Singh is a Southampton-born architect with his own practice in the region. Ranjeet is a researcher and commentater on Sikh faith, culture and heritage whose first interaction with the Sikh Education Council took place in 2005. He has been a pivotal contributor to our projects and initiatives throughout the 2010s, most notably across our publications. Recently his research with the SEC has focused on Guru-period religious and civic architecture and urbanism.
