There was a great deal of enthusiasm at the first SEC seminar to be held on the South coast early in July when Southampton played host to our quarterly seminar for Summer 2017. Two papers were presented by SEC chairperson Dr Pargat Singh, and SEC researcher Paramdip Kaur respectively, both pertaining to the Darbar Sahib Amritsar.
In the first paper, ‘Why Darbar Sahib and not Golden Temple?‘, Dr Pargat Singh advocated for Sikhs to use terminology more appropriate for their headquarters, whilst in the second paper, ‘Socio-political implications of recent refurbishment and architectural changes to Darbar Sahib‘, Paramdip Kaur outlined how recent refurbishment has impacted the Sikh psyche. Both papers are available to read in the Summer 2017 edition of Sikh Sunehan.
The event was organised by a dedicated team of Sikh researchers who are local to the city, and ably hosted by SEC facilitator Ranjeet Singh.
